Montana OutWest Outfitters
Owned and operated by Remi, Montana OutWest Outfitters is operated in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. Our outfit and clients have demonstrated one of the best success records in the area due the guides’ extensive knowledge of the land and the animals in it. They have also received many top awards for animals they have guided clients to.
Our main focus at Montana OutWest is our general tag elk hunts. Hunting elk is a dream for many hunters and most of our year is spent focusing on elk. We break our elk hunts into three different hunts –Our Archery elk hunt (September/October), and then our rifle hunt which we split into two parts. The first 3 weeks of rifle season are your standard rifle hunts. The last 2 weeks of the rifle season are what we consider our migrations hunts. Every week will produce opportunities on bulls. Most clients are able to draw the elk/deer combo tag which allows our clients to hunt deer and elk.
Due to our high demand and nearly 100% repeat clientele we rarely have openings for our “general elk and deer hunts”. Because of this we decided to shake it up a little bit and offer an application service for one of the LIMITED DRAW ELK TAGS in our guide use area. While the odds are low, the lucky draw applicants will be granted a spot with our outfit for either a rifle or archery hunt in the drawn unit. This unit produces bulls in the 340-360" range with some going well above that. It's a hard tag to draw, but worth the wait.
Our lodge is in the heart of arguably the best mule deer unit in the state. Tag holders can expect to see 20+ quality bucks per day. Each year we see and possibly harvest bucks that score 190+ B&C including some that score over 200 B&C inches. The average deer we take in this unit scores around 180 inches gross. Over the past years we have taken many trophy deer with both a gun and bow. We have personally guided hunters to some of the largest bucks killed in the unit each year. If you are looking to harvest the buck of a lifetime, this is your unit and we are your outfitter. Only a limited number of tags are given out annually for this area. Since the draw odds are slim for this area we can’t book a hunt for this unit specifically. This hunt is generally booked after the hunter has secured a permit. The same application service is available for trophy mule deer as our limited draw elk. If you apply through us and draw, we will guarantee you a spot in camp for that season.
Our five day Spring bear hunts are done by spot and stalk and calling only. Most hunts involve hiking up basins to areas where avalanche chutes can be glassed for foraging bears, or by traveling logging roads glassing in logged cuts. Because of the bears’ elusive nature, spot and stalk bear hunting can be an extremely rewarding hunt. Our hunting area boasts a high percentage of color phase bears. Because of high bear population in our area we have an extended bear season that runs longer than the rest of the state and encompasses some of the best weeks to hunt bears! The best time to hunt bears is during the month of may. This is when the highest concentrations of bears are out and are more easily accessible.
